Some Euro 2016 games could be played without spectators, according to UEFA vice-president Giancarlo Abete.
The Italian was speaking following the terror attacks in Brussels on Tuesday in which, at current count, 34 people have been killed and over a hundred more injured.
“Euro 2016 is the kind of event we can’t delay or postpone,” Abate, the former president of the Italian football association told Italian radio station Radio 24.
“We can’t exclude the possibility of playing behind closed doors as we cannot exclude terrorism.”
AÂ friendly between France and Germany on November 13 last year was targeted by terrorists on the night of the Paris atrocities, when more than 130 people were murdered in a co-ordinated attack across the French city.
Uefa released a statement following the attacks in Belgium on Tuesday, saying that it “reaffirmed its commitment in placing safety and security at the centre of its organisational plans for Euro 2016,” but made no mention of games being played without spectators as a security measure.
