Nate Diaz claims he ruined the UFC’s Conor McGregor megafight plan for UFC 200

Were they really planning to do this?

‘I’m not surprised mother f**kers’ were the epic words of Nate Diaz after he brutally halted Conor McGregor’s rampage through the UFC.

Diaz’s humbling second round submission victory over the hubristic Irishman at UFC 196 certainly shocked many fans around the world.

But the Stockton native reckons it also killed off the UFC’s grand plans for one of the biggest fights in the organisation’s history.

While many, including McGregor himself, had their eyes on a possible fight with welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 200, Diaz believes they were looking at an even bigger bout for the landmark show.

The 30-year-old believes his win blew plans out of the water to have McGregor fight three-time UFC welterweight champion Georges St Pierre.

GSP-McGregor

The Canadian legend was octagon-side at UFC 196 and he’s been back in training after taking a break from MMA back in 2013.

Diaz was on former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen’s podcast and put forward the theory that St Pierre was in the crowd for the McGregor fight to call out the Irishman if he won.

“I put a big old hole in that sh*t.” Diaz said. “What do you guys think that I’m some game to be played with? I’ve been in this game for too long to f**k with.

“Yeah, they had GSP there. We’re gonna have this big old GSP-McGregor show bullsh*t.

“I don’t even want to hear about that. GSP is gonna come out of f**king retirement to fight this little ass Conor McGregor? What the f**k?

“This is all just a freak show now. So now what did I do? I p*ssed off Conor McGregor, I pissed off GSP and most of all I pissed off the UFC. But LOL mother f**ker.”

But now it’s Diaz who will be facing McGregor once again in a rematch at UFC 200 in July at 170lbs.
