Was he worth the fee?

Jose was right.

In The Special One: The Dark Side of Jose Mourinho, an account of Jose Mourinho’s time as Real Madrid manager, the former Chelsea boss accused his players of leaking information to the press.

He wanted to know the identity of “the rat” giving away Madrid’s secrets, and scolded his team. Mourinho dismissed Diego Torres’ book as a work of fiction, however, it appears there may be a “rat” in the Madrid ranks after all, as yet player’s transfer documents have been leaked.

Earlier this year, website Football Leaks got their hands on Gareth Bale’s transfer documents, and the documents covering Angel di Maria’s transfer from Madrid to Manchester United.

The Colombian joined the La Liga club from Monaco following the World Cup in 2014, with the transfer fee at the time reported to be in the region of €75m (£60m).

The leaked documents confirm that fee, and reveal that Madrid will pay Monaco a cool €1m (£800,000) each time they qualify for the Champions League, while Rodriguez remains at Madrid. The bonus will be paid a maximum of five times.

Rodriguez’s fee could rise to €90m (£72m), an incredible fee considering the 24-year-old recently lost his starting place in the team.
