There are not many clubs whose relationship with a shirt sponsor stands the test of time like that between PSV and Philips.
This season will be the last time that ‘Philips’ will be emblazoned across the midriff of the jerseys sported by the Dutch side, though, as a new shirt sponsorship deal will begin in the summer.
PSV (Philips Sport Vereniging) was founded in 1913 as a means for employees of Philips, the Dutch technology company, to play football and the sponsor has featured on all PSV jerseys since 1983.
But while Philips will remain a co-sponsor of the club, this will be the final season that we will see the emboldened text of ‘Philips’ proudly displayed on the chest.
It’s yet to be revealed who will pick up as PSV’s main shirt sponsor for the start of the 2016-17 season but the reigning Eredivisie champions will honour their very special relationship with the company by donning these heritage jerseys, complete with retro badge, at the end of the current campaign.
