Rankings suggest Harry Redknapp has had zero impact on the Jordan national team

We were surprised when Harry Redknapp announced he would be taking charge of the Jordan national football team.

The former Tottenham, West Ham and Portsmouth boss was recruited by the Middle East nation on an initial two-game spell for their World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Australia, and has not ruled out extending his time with the ninth best national team in Asia.

But, while the 69-year-old has been known for making an instant impact in some of his other jobs, he failed to have any real effect on the country’s Fifa world ranking.

Jordan picked up more than 300 ranking points for their 8-0 victory over Bangladesh, but the 5-1 setback in Sydney meant they added no more to their tally.

Results earlier in the qualifying campaign meant that, despite finishing second in their group, they were left needing a result in Australia to stay in contention for a World Cup berth.

Redknapp continues to serve as a football advisor to Derby County, who are currently sixth in the Championship – and not even included in the Fifa World Rankings. The Rams find themselves nine points adrift of automatic promotion with six games remaining.
