While the majority of us will be familiar with the blockbusters, Oscar winners, and classic films on Netflix, there are always a few hidden gems that are just waiting to be discovered. With such a vast library of titles to choose from, we’ve decided to pick out some of our favourites for you to enjoy over the Bank Holiday.

Recommended

West of Memphis

Plot: An examination of a failure of justice in the case against three teenage murder convicts.

It’s like: The burning sense of injustice that we all felt while watching Making A Murderer.

What We do in the Shadows

Plot: Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are vampires who are finding that modern life has them struggling with the mundane – like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

It’s like: Flight Of The Conchords humour but adapted for the big screen. It’s a wonderful film that’s guaranteed to leave you laughing.

The Guest

Plot: A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

It’s like: The Bourne Identity with elements of Carrie and Uncle Buck. Yep, it’s that bonkers.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil

Plot: Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are attacked by a group of preppy college kids.

It’s like: Shaun Of The Dead meets the Looney Tunes and Friday The 13th.

Documentary

Hoop Dreams

Plot: The lives of two inner-city Chicago boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional.

The Central Park Five

Plot: The 1989 case of five black and Latino teenagers who were convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. After having spent between 6 and 13 years each in prison, a serial rapist confessed to the crime.

Buried

Plot: Paul (Ryan Reynolds) is a U.S. truck driver working in Iraq. After an attack by a group of Iraqis he wakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap.

Moneyball

Plot: Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s (Brad Pitt) successful attempt to assemble a baseball team on a lean budget by employing computer-generated analysis to acquire new players.

Hot Rod

Plot: Self-proclaimed stuntman Rod Kimble is preparing for the jump of his life – to clear 15 buses to raise money for his abusive stepfather Frank’s life-saving heart operation.

Kung Fury

Plot: In 1985, Kung Fury, the toughest martial artist cop in Miami, goes back in time to kill the worst criminal of all time – kung fuhrer Hitler.

Plot: A corporate recruiter steals artwork to maintain his lavish lifestyle. But one painting he targets belongs to a headhunter of a different kind.

Equilibrium

Plot: In a fascist future where all forms of feeling are illegal, a man in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system.

The Raid 2
