This one stat makes Leicester City’s Premier League title seem even MORE impressive

True champions.

Richard Beech

It doesn’t take a football expert to point out that what Leicester City have done this season is nothing short of a miracle.

With a small transfer budget, and with a team full of players that certainly weren’t household names up until this season, they managed to win the Premier League.

It still feels like it’s a dream.

But just how much less have Leicester spent on transfers than previous champions did before them?

The answer is… a lot less.

But this doesn’t tell the whole story, if you take into account how much each team in the Premier League has spent over the last five years, Leicester have spent a net of £55 million.

Even more impressive are Spurs, who have spent the least out of everyone… in fact, they’ve actually made money with their transfer dealings.

But they don’t have a Premier League title (yet) to show for it, and Leicester City do.

Here’s how much Leicester’s 2015/16 squad actually cost:

Kasper Schmeichel – £2m
Danny Simpson – £2m
Robert Huth – £3m
Wes Morgan – £1m
Christian Fuchs – Free
Marcin Wasilewski – Free
Marc Albrighton – Free
Danny Drinkwater – £1m
N’Golo Kante – £5.6m
Riyad Mahrez – £400,000
Shinji Okazaki – £7m
Jamie Vardy – £1m
Mark Schwarzer – Free
Jeffrey Schlupp – Free
Demarai Gray – £3.8m
Andrej Kramaric – £7m
Yohan Benalouane – £5.6m
Andy King – Free
Gokhan Inler – £5m
Leonardo Ulloa – £10m

(Figures as per ESPN).
