Shameful scenes at Stamford Bridge as 69-year-old Guus Hiddink is pushed to the ground

Amidst all the drama, this was an unsavoury footnote.

Chelsea versus Spurs was always going to be a combustable affair, especially with so much at stake, and so it proved. In the end the home side prevented Mauricio Pochettino’s men from achieving the victory they so badly needed, and the 2-2 result meant Leicester City were crowned Premier League champions.

There was drama in the first half as a melee flared up between players and coaches of both sides, and it may yet result in a ban for Mousa Dembele who allegedly “gouged” Diego Costa’s left eye. But if those present assumed that that was the end of the unpleasantness, they were sorely mistaken.

After the final whistle, another mass confrontation kicked off, with a large throng of Chelsea and Spurs men acting like spoilt children. Worst of all in the loss of decorum was 69-year-old Guus Hiddink being pushed into the dugout area by the careless jostling of others.

To see such a proud man take such an embarrassing tumble was not a good look for a game that was thrilling until the very needless end.
