West Ham’s co-chairman is being torn apart on Twitter after these baffling quotes about Man Utd’s delayed arrival

He blamed the visitors for the delay

What else did he expect?

As you may know, West Ham’s final game at Upton Park was delayed after Man United had some “difficulty” travelling through the streets of East London. The coach that was carrying Louis Van Gaal and his players was pelted with missiles and objects hurled from West Ham fans, resulting in a delayed kick-off time of 8:30pm.

West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan was speaking with Sky Sports and blamed the visitors for the delay, stating:

“I’m gravely disappointed, more for our supporters. What people forget is they’ve got trains and buses to get home and we’ve got a wonderful, wonderful show after the game for them. Many just can’t stay any more.

“Man United should have got here at 4pm. They know it’s our last game. They had the same problem at Tottenham a few weeks ago. I think the police and officials have been kind. I’d make them kick-off at 7.45pm if I was in charge.”

Naturally, lots of people were quick to point out a few gaping holes in his argument.
