Singer Christina Grimmie dies after shooting at concert in Orlando

Singer Christina Grimmie, a contestant on the US version of The Voice in 2014, has died after she was shot following a concert in Orlando on Friday night.

Orlando police confirmed the tragic news on Twitter on Saturday morning following the incident, when a gunman approached 22-year-old Grimmie and shot her after she had performed with the band Before You Exit at the Plaza Live venue in Orlando.

Grimmie had posted the following message on Twitter shortly before the concert.

According to ABC News, the gunman was tackled by Grimmie’s brother and shot and killed himself during the struggle that followed.

Orlando Police Department public information officer Wanda Miglio said that Grimmie’s brother “immediately tackled the suspect, stopping him from causing any more harm to Christina and her fans”.

“During the struggle, the suspect shot himself,” Miglio added. “The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene….Her brother is a hero for saving and stopping him from not hurting anyone else.”
