It took 58 years for Wales to score another goal at an international tournaments, but judging by these fans reaction, it was worth the wait.
Wales fans are in cloud nine following their 2-1 win over Slovakia in their Euro 2016 opener, and it was only fitting the man to notch their first goal in the tournament this year was Gareth Bale.
Scoring from a wonderful free kick from just outside the area, Bale’s strike sent Welsh fans into delirium, as this fantastic video from Away Days can show.
Taking place in a local fan zone, Wales fans erupt when Bale’s left footed strike goes in, throwing beer, cheering and embracing each other as the first Welsh goal in a major tournament in a generation goes in.
Our favourite part? The man in the front who drapes himself in the Welsh flag.
With scenes like that, it’s no wonder why Bale thinks Welsh fans ‘feel more pride and passion than anyone else.’
The goal and subsequent 2-1 win gained some added sheen following England’s 1-1 draw with Russia. With it, Wales went top of Group B, and the Dragons are now firmly in the driving seat with qualification out of their group.
What a wonderful outpouring of joy. Here’s hoping Wales fans will have many more moments to celebrate as Euro 2016 progresses.
