Cristiano Ronaldo completely lost it when Hungary retook the lead

Hungary for success?

Simon Lloyd

Poor old Cristiano. He’s had a stressful week, bless him.

After offending Iceland with his post-match comments after their Euro 2016 opener, he missed a penalty in Portugal’s second match against Austria. Added to all that, he’s become so sick and tired with the press that he was recorded launching a reporter’s microphone into a nearby lake ahead of the game with Hungary.

But hey, the game against Hungary would be straightforward, right?

Well… not exactly.

With Zoltan Gera giving the Hungarians an unlikely lead in the first half, Ronaldo’s pass allowed Nani to level things for Portugal just before of half time.

Minutes after the break, the Hungarians were back in front thanks to a deflected free-kick only for Ronaldo to finally register his first goal of the tournament a minute later with a clever  back-heeled flick.

Surely it would be one way traffic from now on?

Nope.

Another deflected Hungarian shot saw them take the lead for a third time. It was all becoming too much for the poor Cristiano.

Inevitably, Ronaldo wasn’t quite done yet. His header drew Portugal level for a third time a matter of minutes later.

Finally, Euro 2016 has an exciting match. About bloody time.
