The Game of Thrones creators have confirmed there aren’t many episodes left

The end is in sight.

WARNING: SPOILERS

Monday’s phenomenal Game of Thrones season six finale confirmed that shit is very much about to hit the fan when we return to Westeros next year.

We had revelations, fist pump-inducing retribution, a pretty ridiculous death count and epic wide shots of dragons – obviously.

With Daenerys’ army assembled, Jon Snow declared King in the North and maxed out evil Cersei on the Iron Throne, there’s a lot to be getting on with when the show returns.

But Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed that there are only about 13 episodes left before the global TV sensation wraps up for good. When you think about the fact that previous seasons have been 10 episodes in length, that’s really not a lot.

Speaking to Deadline about the season six sendoff, Benioff said: “It’s two more seasons we’re talking about. From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now.

“We’re trying to tell one cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end. As Dan said, we’ve known the end for quite some time and we’re hurtling towards it. Those last images from the show that aired last night showed that.”

Nobody will be happy to bid farewell to the Seven Kingdoms, but 13 episodes to tie up so many loose ends and determine the fates of all those characters lucky enough to still have their heads should *hopefully* mean minimal fluff and filler.

As far as the agonising wait for season seven is concerned, we really don’t know how to console you on that one. But you’ve got plenty of time to recap on all the things you might have missed from The Winds of Winter.Â
