The visual effects from Game of Thrones ‘Battle of the B*stards’ will take your breath away

This is how the magic happens...

You won’t see many better battle scenes on TV than this.

If you’ve already watched the Game of Thrones ‘Battle of the Bastards’ episode then you’ll know exactly what we mean.

It’s brutal, bloody and breathless hour of television as Jon Snow’s rag-tag force takes on the might of Ramsay Bolton’s army to wrest back control of Winterfell.

We’ve already seen extensive behind-the-scenes footage and commentary of how they made the spectacular Battle of Winterfell action, which took 25 days just to shoot.

But now we’ve been given a glimpse of the incredible visual effects that went into creating the fluid and frenetic fight scenes we follow Jon through to his ultimate show down with Ramsay.

Australian visual effects studio iLoura worked its VFX magic on Season 6 of GoT.

“Battle of the Bastards is shocking in its audacity, said the show’s VFX producer Steve Kullback. “More shocking still that we pulled it off and so much credit for that goes to iloura.”

“We are up close and personal in this battle with CG horses and collisions right in front of the lens and we constantly needed to review Iloura’s shots side by side with the photography because it was hard to remember and even harder to see the difference between what was shot and what was added. Amazing.”

Lucky for us they’ve released a brilliant highlights reel showing just how their wizardry made this one of the most epic battle scenes in TV history…
