People aren’t happy with Uefa’s excuse for not marking Turkey tragedy at Euro 2016

Something doesn't add up here

Uefa have announced that there will be no minute’s silence at the Euro 2016 quarter-finals for the victims of the Istanbul airport attack.

A gun and bomb attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk airport has resulted in at least 36 deaths and over 147 injuries, according to reports.

The attack is being linked to the either the Islamic State or Kurdish separatists, but so far no group has admitted to it.

It was expected that a minute’s silence would be held at Euro 2016 for victims of the attack, but the governing body have confirmed that they will not be doing this at the quarter-final stage. Their reason behind not doing it has left a lot of people scratching their heads.

Unsurprisingly, a lot of people picked up on the fact that Turkey did take part in the tournament, even though they were knocked out in the group stage.

Turkey played three games in the competition, losing their opening two matches to Croatia and Spain respectively before going out on a high note with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic, though their three point were not enough to secure a spot in the second round.

This has caused a lot of confusion regarding Uefa’s statement explaining why there will not be marking the tragedy at the tournament.
