Good to see the Starks wreaking some vengeance for a change.
Before we continue, the obligatory spoiler warning…
For a few seasons in Game of Thrones, it seemed as if the Starks couldn’t catch a break.
From Ned’s beheading to the horror of the Red Wedding, from the ill-treatment of Sansa by Joffrey and then Ramsay Bolton to Arya’s struggles and Jon Snow’s apparent death at the end of Season Five, there was seemingly no end to the family’s misery.
In Season Six, however, things have been very much on the up.
Sansa and Jon Snow have been reunited at Winterfell. We’ve learned that Jon is not a ‘bastard’ after all and just how noble Ned was to protect the legacy of his late sister.
And, not before time, Arya has decided to abandon the House of Black and White and resumed her quest to terminate the people who have crossed her path over the years.
Walder Frey was the latest to meet his maker in the Season Six finale (and in extremely satisfying fashion), while, for the record, here’s everyone else who Arya has managed to cross off the list.
- Joffrey Baratheon (Poisoned)
- Ser Meryn Trant (Killed by Arya)
- Tywin Lannister (Killed by Tyrion Lannister)
- Polliver (Killed by Arya)
That leaves Cersei Lannister, Gregor Clegane, AKA The Mountain (good luck with that), Melisandre, Ser Ilyn Payne, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr.
Uncertainty, meanwhile, surrounds her feelings over Sandor Clegane, AKA The Hound, who she left for dead but who has since had a new lease of life.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, was asked by Entertainment Weekly in what order she would like to kill off the remaining names on the list and replied: “If I had to put them in order of who she wants dead the most — just three of them — it would probably go Cersei, Melisandre, then the Mountain or Ilyn Payne — they’re on par with each other.”
Sounds like Arya is far from done yet.
