They bloody love him.
It’s difficult not to like Danny Ings. His still fledgling career is defined by hard graft and teamwork, he is dedicated to his charitable and community projects, and always comes across as charming and affable. Oh and he can play a bit too.
Sadly for the former Burnley man, he suffered the rotten luck of an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee during his first training session under Jurgen Klopp. It ruled him out for the entirety of his first season at Anfield, barring a substitute appearance in the final game.
Liverpool fans have grown very fond of him very quickly, and have been rooting for him to return to goalscoring ways for them for nine long months. And so when Liverpool played Tranmere Rovers in their first pre-season game of the 2016/17 season, they were hoping it would be his day.
So when he finally broke the deadlock in the 78th minute with a bullet of a finish, the place erupted. A flare even went off in the away end. The Anfield faithful will be hoping it’s just the first of many…
