Amir Khan says he would “definitely” take on Conor McGregor in MMA fight

Happy to do what Mayweather wouldn't...

To be honest, we were sick of hearing about a rumoured super fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather anyway…

Thankfully, it seems talk of a meeting between the pair has burnt itself out (for now at least).

Due to McGregor’s contractual agreements with the UFC promotion, such a fight would’ve needed to take place in the UFC – hence the reason Dana White invited Mayweather to contact him to arrange it. As we all know, that doesn’t appear to have happened and everyone is moving on with their lives.

Canelo Alvarez v Amir Khan

As highlighted by Flo Combat, Amir Khan, another man to have been linked with a meeting with Mayweather, now appears to have put his name forward for a fight with McGregor – going as far as saying he’d be willing to step into the octagon to take on the Irishman.

“I would, definitely,” the Bolton boxer replied when asked if he’d be willing to take McGregor on at his own game.

“Something like that would be massive. Even if I started to train MMA next year, I’d only be 30 years old. I could stop and train for a full year and become a good MMA fighter. It’s in our blood to fight. I’ve been fighting all my life, so for me, I don’t think it’d be a problem for me to learn and switch over to the sport.”

Khan also added that a fight between the pair would be settled by their boxing abilities

“I think McGregor has some great boxing skills. A good boxer will always win a MMA fight- I’ve always said that. A good puncher will always win. You saw in the Aldo fight–he took a step back and countered him as he came in. With boxing, it’s all about distance and timing, and that’s something we have on our side more than MMA fighters.”
