Jurgen Klopp’s preseason has been severely hampered by his lack of contact lenses.
With his Liverpool team stateside, Klopp played in a friendly match between the club’s staff and Stanford University.
Klopp spent eleven years of his professional playing career with Mainz 05. He began life at the club in the striker role before dropping back into defence, which coincidentally was what happened in the Stanford game.
The German managed to get into some good attacking positions during the 1-1 draw, but was unable to apply the requisite finish to get his name on the scoresheet.
His first clear-cut chance came early in the first half when he took possession inside a crowded box from a corner kick. He managed to get a shot away, but it was easily saved by the goalkeeper. However, it was obvious at this stage that those pesky glasses slipping off his head were hindering his performance.
Shortly after Liverpool’s equaliser, a somewhat controversial goal from physio Ruben Pons, Klopp got another decent chance, trying his luck with an ambitious header from the edge of the box.
His effort just didn’t have enough power to loop over the keeper and into the net, but again, it looked like his spectacles may have put him off.
