Rangers’ manager has addressed the Robin van Persie transfer rumours

This would be a strange one

This would be a strange one.

Robin van Persie may no longer be the lethal goalscorer that wreaked havoc on Premier League defences with Arsenal and Manchester United, and who helped secure Sir Alex Ferguson his final league title, but he could certainly still do a job for many teams.

However, the 32-year-old won’t be joining Rangers, despite the odds on the striker moving to Glasgow being slashed.

The Dutchman is currently playing for Fenerbahce in Turkey, and has been linked with a return to the Premier League. Although the current transfer market appears to have descended into madness, it hasn’t reached the levels of insanity that would see Van Persie playing for the newly-promoted Rangers.

Mark Warburton was asked about the rumour which began to spread on social media on Wednesday night, and was bemused as any football fan when hearing it.

The Rangers boss said he woke to find numerous text messages asking him about the bizarre transfer, before dismissing it outright.

When Jim White takes steps to debunk a transfer rumour, you know it’s definitely not going to happen.

Let that be the end of that one then.
