French international forward Jeremy Menez suffered a horrible injury on his Bordeaux debut, losing part of an ear in a freak accident.

The former Milan man tangled with Lorient player Didier N’Dong in a pre-season friendly, and N’Dong accidentally trod on Menez’s head.

Menez left the field with blood pouring from the side of his head, and required surgery following the gruesome injury.

N’Dong has since apologised to his opponent, describing the clash as “a totally unintentional accident,” Sky Sports reports.

“I give him my full support for the coming days and hope to see him very quickly on the pitches of Ligue 1,” the Gabonese midfielder added.

Menez, who had only come into the game as a substitute just after the hour mark. had spent the past two seasons in Milan.

He hit double figures in his first Serie A campaign with the Rossoneri, but a series of medical issues kept him out of action for most of 2015/16 and he only managed 12 appearances all season.

According to a statement from Bordeaux, Menez was taken in for surgery immediately after leaving the pitch, with the player placed under local anaesthetic as doctors sewed his ear back together.

“The downtime of Jeremy Menez will be dependent on the healing,” the statement continues.

“We wish a speedy recovery to our player and we hope to see him back on the pitch soon.”
