Gary Neville celebrates return to Sky with absolutely atrocious penalty

Horrendous

Ben Kiely

Gary Neville is almost definitely better at football than you in every way… except maybe when it comes to spot-kicks.

The former Manchester United defender and celebrated pundit is returning to Monday Night Football this season, albeit in a slightly lesser capacity.

As part of the sports broadcasting behemoth’s Premier League preview show, their pundits stepped up and each took a penalty on the Soccer Am pitch.

Neville famously never took a penalty in his entire professional career and if you thought that for some odd reason he was banned from taking a spot-kick because he had perfected the art so well that it would simply be unfair on everyone else, you’d be dead wrong.

He’s terrible, but at least he’s able to have a laugh about it.

Sky Sports subscribers will be delighted that football’s best pundit of recent times will be back on their TV screens this season, but while Neville has confirmed that he’ll be linking back up with unlikely partner in crime, Jamie Carragher, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting his analysis as regularly as before.

“I am delighted to be rejoining Sky Sports and can’t wait for the start of the new football season, especially as there will be a variety of new programming on the channel,” Neville previously said in a statement.

“It is important for me that my role will be slightly different, and I am looking forward to the challenge of working on some new, creative and exciting projects.”
