Everyone’s worried that Superman is doing something quite rude to Supergirl in new poster

Blimey...

Nooruddean Choudry

He’s doing WHAT to her?

Warner Bros. TV adaptation of Supergirl, starring Melissa Benoist has been a resounding success on both sides of the ocean, with many applauding the show as thoroughly entertaining and action-packed. In an era when it is in vogue to depict superheroes as brooding, tortured souls, Supergirl is a breath of fresh air.

Benoist in particular has been praised for her depiction of Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers/Supergirl. As Rotten Tomatoes put it, “Melissa Benoist shines as Superman’s plucky little cousin in Supergirl, a family-friendly comic-book adaptation that ditches cynicism for heart.”

Hoping to capitalise on the success of the show, the makers have almost inevitably decided to throw Superman into the mix. Except as with other superheroes, the television version is very different from the movie incarnation. Instead of Henry Cavill, we have Everybody Wants Some!! star Tyler Hoechlin.

Although he only appears in two episodes of the show’s second season, it is nevertheless big news and is being publicised as such…

However, one promotional poster in particular has caught the eye of many a perturbed comic book fan. The image is of Superman in standard heroic pose, but the rather startling tagline reads like he is doing something quite unmentionable to his first cousin Kara.

It reads: ‘SUPERMAN IS COMING IN SUPERGIRL’…

As you can see, plenty were taken aback by the unfortunate choice of phrasing…

After a little digging, we discovered that, as much as people would want the too-good-to-be-true error to be legit, it is indeed too good to be true. The official promotional art has a very minor but significant difference.

It reads: ‘SUPERMAN IS COMING TO SUPERGIRL’, which can’t really be taken in any kind of rude way whatsoever…

The poor original designer is so upset with the mischievous internetting, he has made his Twitter account private and complained: ‘I don’t have stomach for this… it’s too much. Sorry to Hoechlin, Melissa & CW, I never wanted this to happen. I’ll be back when it dies.’

I guess we’ve found his photoshopped kryptonite.
