Gary Lineker’s response to Olympic athlete soiling himself is a good life lesson

When you talk about sportsmen relieving themselves on the biggest stage, one name springs to mind more than most.

Gary Lineker has never been allowed to forget his episode during the 1990 World Cup, when he was caught short in the middle of the group game against Ireland and was unable to leave the field of play before doing his business.

It gets brought up whenever the Match of the Day presenter tweets about…well, anything, really.

So when French race-walker Yohann Diniz suffered similar stomach problems during a long-distance Olympic event, some people’s thoughts turned immediately to Lineker.

Diniz could be seen relieving himself mid-race, prompting a fair few people to turn to the man they regard as an expert on sporting bowel movements.

If anyone was able to sympathise with Diniz, it would surely be Lineker himself. And sure enough, so it proved.
