The Upside Down is on its way back…
Netflix confirmed yesterday that their popular horror-drama Stranger Things will be returning for a second season in 2017. The streaming giant made the announcement with a video that also listed the episode titles for the second instalment of the critically-acclaimed series.
Executive Producer Shawn Levy spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the show’s renewal and what he had to say was very interesting – particularly with regard to possible additions to the cast.
When speaking about big names who have expressed an interest in ‘taking part’ in future seasons, Levy named some real heavyweights:
“Without naming them — look, obviously certain people like Aaron Paul and Stephen King and Guillermo Del Toro have been very public champions of our show and supporters.
“But the list of famous creative people — whether actors or filmmakers — who have found their way to the Duffers and I as fans of the show … and you’re right, certain actors that you have definitely heard of have raised their hand with real interest to be a part of it.”
When asked if key characters (like Eleven) and not-so-key characters (like Barb) would be making a comeback in the show’s next season, Levy said:
“I really believe that if we do divulge a ton of stuff, it would make for a less satisfying second season.”
While celebrity cameos can become grating if there’s too many of them at once, adding in a big name or two could carry the show to another level. And with Aaron Paul already having a strong relationship with Netflix from his time on Bojack Horseman, it does make sense that he may feature.
There’s plenty of us to wonder about before season two kicks off. One thing is for sure, the hype around Stranger Things continues to grow.
