Zinedine Zidane – there are worse footballing role models.
Steven Gerrard offered himself up – with some cajoling from LA Galaxy’s automotive sponsors – to be interviewed by a six-year-old fan as he jetted around Los Angeles.
The former Liverpool captain comes across very well in the video and jokes light-heartedly with the young pup.
During one exchange, Gerrard tells the want-away Galaxy youngster to consider a move to Liverpool or Barcelona after they admit that they have their heart set on Premier League champions Leicester City.
“You don’t want to go to Leicester,” he remarks. “They’re crap.”
The former England midfielder makes two references to his Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane, who recently retired from international football after equalling Gerd Muller’s tally of 68 goals – although it took the Irishman 146 games to do so, compared to the German’s 62.
But it’s clear that Gerrard rates Keane highly – or at least appreciates a good joke at his team-mate’s expense – as after revealing that Zidane was his favourite player growing up, he names the world’s current top three as ‘Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and… Robbie Keane’.
Slightly more believable is Gerrard referring to Keane as a Galaxy legend.
We’d like to believe that Keane really is in Stevie G’s top three. It makes perfect sense to us.
