Is this evidence that Gendry could be rowing his way back into Game of Thrones for season 7?

Is a reunion with Arya on the cards?

SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU’RE ONE OF THE TWELVE PEOPLE ON EARTH NOT UP TO DATE WITH GAME OF THRONES.

With just 13 episodes of the world’s biggest TV show remaining, George R. R. Martin and his Game of Thrones writers aren’t leaving themselves too much time to tie up loose ends.

But there’s one unfinished storyline that we’d practically given up on ever getting resolved: what the hell happened to Gendry?

The last time we saw the loveable bastard son of Robert Baratheon was all the way back in season three. He struck up a friendship with Arya Stark in the early days, but it wasn’t long before he fell into the seductive clutches of Melisandre.

The Red Priestess wanted to use poor old Gendry as a sacrifice for Stannis, but Davos came to his rescue and was able to sneak him away. The unfortunate fan favourite has been absent from the show since he was seen paddling off on a little rowing boat in the vague direction of King’s Landing. But Gendry didn’t have a Siri-assisted sat nav, or even a map, so there was no guarantee he’d survive the journey.

Thrones fans haven’t given up, though, and for years they’ve joked that he’s out there somewhere, still rowing.

And it looks like they may have been right to keep the faith, as Joe Dempsie (who played the character) has been spotted at an airport in Belfast, where much of the show is filmed.

As reported by GoT fan site Watchers on the Wall (the picture is on there), there had been rumours previously that Dempsie had been sighted in the Northern Irish city, but there was no photographic evidence to back it up.

They reckon he’s not currently scheduled to be in Belfast for anything else, so while it can’t be taken as hard evidence, it looks like Gendry is making his comeback.

And if he is, he may as well stake a claim to the Iron Throne. Everyone else is doing the same.
