You can nearly count the number of days until FIFA 17 hits shop shelves on two hands, and we’re very excited about taking young Alex Hunter all the way to the Premier League trophy.
There’s a lot to be getting excited about if you’re an avid FIFA player. There’s the aforementioned story mode – a first for the genre-dominating game series.
The single-player Career mode is getting is even more fully-featured.
There’s the traditionally varied and vibrant soundtrack that will no doubt have you happily humming your way through the menu screens for the next 12 months.
And of course there’s the fact that you can gradually lose friends by hitting the dab every single time you arrogantly stick one in the top corner.
All things considered, everything appears in order for another stellar year of virtual football.
It’s on the technical side, though, where FIFA 17 is making arguably its biggest leap forward. The game will be jumping from the Ignite engine to Frostbite, the same one used in the upcoming Battlefield 1.
Although a lot of the animations will look similar to last year’s iteration, from a graphical point of view the differences are immediately noticeable.
Frostbite 3 allows for much more advanced lighting in FIFA 17, which in turn benefits the way stadiums and players look. It’s difficult to do the subtle nuances justification with words alone, so have a watch of this handy comparison video from Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry.
Thursday September 29 – not long to go.
