Rory McIlroy completely shut down this heckler at the Ryder Cup

He won't be doing this again

If you’ve been watching the Ryder Cup over the last couple of days, you’ll be well aware at this stage that the American crowd have been, well, less than welcoming.

Although they’ve had a reputation in the past for their almost obnoxious behaviour towards their European opponents, it’s generally accepted that it’s a small minority who are at fault.

Nonetheless there have been plenty of incidents since things kicked off on Friday morning, enough to leave a pretty sour taste in the mouths of fans on this side of the Atlantic.

Justin Rose was among those subjected to abuse from the Hazeltine crowds, but any heckling only seemed to motivate the European players as they charged back into contention in the afternoon fourballs.

On Saturday, fans turned their attention towards Rory McIlroy, who had been doing his best to wind them up as he fist-pumped and screamed after any crucial putts. Things seemed to escalate however when one fan took things a step too far by apparently yelling obscenities at McIlroy before appearing to shout abuse targeted towards his former fiancée Caroline Wozniacki.

McIlroy obviously became quite agitated by whatever was said and was seen confronting the man before quickly calling security over to have him removed.

One of the things that makes the Ryder Cup such a great spectacle is the atmosphere and passion it creates and although we love to see the crowds getting as emotionally involved as they do, this is clearly an example of the line being crossed.
