Look, you know the deal.

You’ve opened up an article about the next season of Game of Thrones so you can’t be mad about it when/if we spoil it for you.

That said, just in case, here’s a spoiler warning.

Gendry, a major character in the first three seasons of Game of Thrones, is set for a long, long, long-awaited return in the seventh series of the show next year.

Game of Thrones fan site Los Siete Reinos claim to have it on good authority that actor Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry, is due on the set of the show in Spain as filming begins for the next chapter.

A video which appeared on the site (via El Correo) confirmed the presence of Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth) and Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), which in itself is a pretty big deal considering their paths have yet to cross (they were on opposite sides in the Battle of Blackwater in season two but never shared a scene) in the show’s six seasons so far.

No pictures of Joe Dempsie on set have surfaced but Los Siete Reinos sources say his arrival is imminent, laying the foundation for his first appearance since fleeing from Dragonstone in the third season.

Gendry, in case you can’t remember, is the unacknowledged bastard son of the late Robert Baratheon. He befriended Arya Stark in King’s Landing before joining the Brotherhood without Banners, who traded him to Melisandre (The Red Woman) for two bags of gold.

Aware of his lineage, Melisandre brought Gendry back to Dragonstone, seduced him so she could claim some of his blood and then threw him in a cell.

He was eventually set free by Davos and has been rowing ever since.

Gendry’s return is the latest of many rumours about season seven to emerge in recent weeks, following on from reports of two pretty important reunions (read about them here and here) set to take place when the show resumes next year.

It could do with hurrying up already.
