Halloween – it’s basically just Fancy Dress Week these days.
Whilst the pagan festival’s modern traditions may be centred around spooky goings on and general scariness, recent years have seen the day used as an excuse to dress up as anything or anyone you want – Halloweeny or not.
Thus you’ll find folk dressed as footballers, celebrities, movie characters, pop stars and basically anything other than the traditional Frankenstein’s monster, wicked witch or Count Dracula. Perhaps it’s for the best.
Liverpool’s footballing stars decided to join the nation in their fancy dress revelry by having a little shindig of their own – or at least the club’s Brazilian contingent did – and the outfits/makeup were something to behold.
In-form playmaker Firmino was the master of ceremonies, but his get-up was seriously confused. He was part-Skeletor and part-Batman in a kind of DÃa de Muertos meets Dark Knight outfit…with a black star for an eye.
Teammate Coutinho looked far cooler, although perhaps lacked his compatriot’s originality. In the most prevalent look of the season, he and his missus were resplendent in Joker/Harley Quinn outfits.
But without doubt, the prize for the most grotesque and therefore faithful look went to Lucas Leiva, who truly embraced what Halloween is all about – spookiness and gore.
Sporting a look that must have taken ages to perfect, the veteran midfielder was wearing a zip on his face, to unveil the fleshy insides of his chiseled features.
Nice…
