We should have known 2016 was going to be such a bad year when it started with the tragic passing of David Bowie.
Bowie, a genre-busting singer, songwriter and actor, passed away on January 10th aged 69, after suffering from cancer.
Now, ten months on from his death, his incredible art collection and some of his furniture and personal effects are being auctioned off by Sotheby’s.
The two-day auction has brought in a staggering amoung of money for his estate, and has seen many of his most prized works of art sold off.
But the piece that has really caught our eye is his Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni record player.
Built by Italian electronics company Brionvega as a “musical pet” is the coolest record player we’ve ever seen – and at least one other person agreed after paying an amazing £257,000 for it.

His radio, also a Brionvega design, went for £30,000.

And there were plenty of other pieces up for grabs as well – even his salt and pepper shakers:

The pieces were divided into two lots: ‘Modern and Contemporary Art’ and the Ettore Sottsass and Memphis Group design auction.

In total, the auction raised a staggering £32.9 million.
