The Young Offenders stars on telling Roy Keane to f**k off

Wil Jones

Swearing at Roy Keane seems like a stupid thing to do

Few footballers have retained a tough man reputation quite as well as Roy Keane. The former Manchester United and Ireland captain took no prisoners during his playing days, from kicking Alf Inge Haaland into a parallel universe, to telling Patrick Vieira to pick on someone his own size.

Keane has taken that reputation into his punditry career, where he can regularly be seen on Sky Sports News admonishing Premier League footballers for any number of mistakes they may have made.

This is all to say, that telling Keane to fuck off seems like it would be either a brave or extremely stupid thing to do. Maybe both.

Not for the stars of BBC Three show The Young Offenders however, who got to do just that during an episode of the show’s second season. We spoke to the show’s lead actors Alex Murphy and Chris Walley, who talked us through what it felt like to tell an Irish sporting great to ‘eff off.

The Young Offenders series 3 will be available BBC Three and BBC iPlayer from July 19th, and will air on BBC One on Fridays at 9.30pm from July 24th
