It was like 2004 all over again
Back in the golden age of Saturday morning television, Dick & Dom in da Bungalow was one of many shows that viewers held fond memories of as they grew up.
Perhaps the most well-known game that the duo, real names Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood, played was charmingly entitled Bogies, which has been brought back for a special outing over 12 years after the last episode aired on BBC2.
This occasion sees Dick & Dom rush around London while shouting their catchphrase at ever-higher volumes, disturbing innocent tourists and bemused commuters in tandem.
“That was vintage, that was back to 2004,” exclaimed Dom after hitting a particularly high note.
There weren’t many of us at schools in the early noughties who didn’t irritate our teachers and parents with an impromptu game of Bogies and it is good to know the game’s creators are as delighted by it as ever.
As is tradition, the Bogeyometer returns with former producer Steve Ryde also back to narrate the wacky duo’s exploits, with Capital FM DJs Roman Kemp and Sonny Jay in tow, in aid of Global’s Make Some Noise, the national charity that gives a voice and a lifeline to small projects across the UK that struggle to be heard.
Dick & Dom in da Bungalow was no stranger to controversy in its heyday, once prompting Conservative MP Peter Luff to bring up the matter in Parliament, asking: “Is that really the stuff of public service broadcasting?”
It ran for five series and 266 episodes, even scooping the Bafta for Best Children’s Presenter in 2004 before coming to a reportedly amicable end in 2006, which was summed up at the time as the duo ‘just wanted to do something new’.
