The NHS turned 72 on July 5th
The United Kingdom has experienced incredibly difficult times during the coronavirus pandemic. Tens of thousands of people have died as a result of the virus, and there have been question marks over the handling of the crisis by politicians.
Through it all, NHS staff have been on the frontline providing care to those suffering, and putting themselves in harm’s way. The country showed its appreciation for those workers by clapping for them at 8pm on Thursdays.
The clapping has now stopped, and has been replaced for calls for a more tangible show of appreciation for those who protected those we love.
We spoke to an A&E doctor who believes that the time is right for a pay rise for health workers in the UK.
“Boris Johnson clapping on his doorstep almost feel like him washing his hands over the failures his government has presided.”
