“The worst illness I have ever had”
On Wednesday, the government announced an update to the country’s tier system, with a number of regions including the Liverpool city region moving from Tier 2 to 3. A number of other areas have moved to Tier 4.
The announcement came as news emerged that more than 50,000 new Covid-19 cases had been confirmed in the last 24 hours in the United Kingdom, with close to 1,000 deaths.
Despite the fact that we have been either in or out of lockdown for the past nine months, a number of people refuse to accept the seriousness of the situation or even the validity of the virus – with social media awash with conspiracy theories and the revelations of frontline NHS workers being disregarded as fake news.
Many figures have attempted to highlight the very real nature of the virus, and the latest is comedian John Bishop, who tested positive on Christmas Day.
In a tweet sent out earlier today, Bishop revealed that the virus was the “worst illness” he’d ever had, before listing the symptoms such as “debilitating headaches”, “dizziness” and “incredibly chronic fatigue”.
His tweet read: “This came through on Christmas Day. This is the worst illness I have ever had, debilitating headaches, muscle, joint and even skin pain. Dizziness, nausea, no appetite, incredibly chronic fatigue. My wife and I are fit non-smokers and it’s flattened us. I don’t wish this on anyone.”

Will his tweet make a difference to anyone? To date, more than 62,000 people in the UK have died as a result of Covid-19, with a number of countries around the world now reporting higher daily cases than at any point during the first or second wave.
