‘We will continue to monitor the data carefully, but there will be no new restrictions introduced in England before the New Year, ‘ said the PM.
While the Government will not introduce any more restrictions before the new year, the Health Secretary has urged the public to “remain cautious” while celebrating.
With Omicron cases still on the rise and new milestones passed each day, the nation waited to see if another lockdown would take hold. But the government announced on December 27 that it would not introduce new measures to curb the rise in cases.
However, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has stated that people should “remain cautious” and take lateral flow tests before attending events on December 31.
Javid did not rule out restrictions in the new year, stating that the government “will see” what the data suggests over the coming weeks.
While the PM did not address the nation, he did send a thread of tweets.
He said: “We will continue to monitor the data carefully, but there will be no new restrictions introduced in England before the New Year.
“However, I would urge everyone to continue to act cautiously given the rising number of Omicron cases.”

Johnson also urged everyone to continue getting jabbed, whether that be the initial shots or the consequent boosters.
This comes after a record-breaking number of cases were detected on Christmas Day.
There were 113,628 infections on the big day, no doubt, as the nation rushed to get tested before elderly relatives sat down for the obligatory game of Trivial Pursuit. There were also 103,558 on Boxing Day and a further 98,515 in the following 24-hour period.
