President Donald Trump says he received a cure for coronavirus during his hospital stay. He also seemed to make a case for universal healthcare, claiming the drugs will be made available to the most vulnerable members of society for free.

Trump is now back in The White House after being hospitalised last week with Covid-19. His diagnosis courted controversy, as he attended rallies and meetings in Minnesota and New Jersey in the days following his positive test.

He was discharged from hospital after just three days, and is now back working at The White House. This has also proved to be a controversial move, as the Head of Security within the building has now tested positive for Covid-19. Many people claim Trump is putting others at risk by returning to work so early.

Trump, however, says he’s arguably never felt better.

In ‘a message from the President’ posted to his social media channels last night, the President says he is essentially cured of the coronavirus.

“I got back a day ago from Walter Reed Medical Centre. I spent four days there, I didn’t have to – I could have stayed at The White House.

“I wasn’t feeling so hot. Within a very short period of time, they gave me Regeneron. Other things too, but I think this was the key.”

CNN have reported that Trump has ties to the CEO of Regeneron.

Regeneron CEO Dr. Leonard Schleifer is believed to be a friend of Trump’s, and a member of his golf club in Westchester, New York.

It has also been argued that Dr. Schleifer’s company received $450 million from the government funding in July of this year as part of Trump’s drive to quickly develop a coronavirus vaccine.

After discussing the benefits of Regeneron, a cocktail of antibodies he had received in hospital, Trump said he was working hard to ensure it would be made available for free to the most vulnerable.

This sounded an awful lot like an argument for universal healthcare. But he still couldn’t resist a swipe at the Chinese.

“We have Regeneron, we have a very similar drug from Eli Lilly coming out and we are trying to get them on an emergency basis. We’ve authorised it, I’ve authorised it.

“If you’re in the hospital and you’re really bad, you’re gonna get it free. Especially if you’re a senior, we’re gonna get you in there quick.

“What I got, I wanna get for you – and you’re not gonna pay for it. It wasn’t your fault this happened, it was China’s fault.”

It remains to be seen whether President Trump will follow through on his proposal.
