This is the first time there has been no death recorded in the UK since the pandemic began
As reported by the BBC, there have been no new recorded daily deaths from coronavirus since the pandemic officially began back in March 2020. Brilliant news.
This remarkable achievement comes amid concern over a recent small rise in cases linked to the spread of the B.1.617.2. variant of COVID-19 first identified in India.
Any Covid deaths that are counted today will be ultimately be reported in days to come. The parameters include those who are within 28 days of a positive test.
While the latest government figures did report another 3,165 new cases – compared with 3,383 on Monday and 2,493 a week ago – this is still, no doubt, a significant sign of progress.
Reports of daily deaths are often lower at weekends and at the start of the week because, obviously, less counting takes place while statisticians are off – taking into account bank holidays is also added factor.
However, this is a reassuring statistic given how Brits have been out and about enjoying both outdoor and indoor meetings with friends and family, especially with so many having gone out to enjoy a late May bank holiday hit by a heatwave.
The final easing of Covid restrictions in England is still set to take place on June 21st but experts are still warning of a third wave and advising caution regarding the Indian variant.
