Several people were taken into custody after a fight broke out at Luton Airport

After a scuffle between a number of passengers in Luton Airport on Friday morning, it has been reported that 17 of the large crowd involved have been arrested.

The fight is thought to have begun in the post-security ‘airside’ zone of the airport around 8am. The fight continued to break out across the waiting area and carried on towards the various duty-free shops and restaurants.

Dozens of people can be seen stood to the side watching the chaos unfold and you can hear children crying at the distressing scenes. If you look closely in some of the videos shared online, you can even see blood spots on the floor.

At least a 12 can be seen in this particular clip but the violence continued to spread, with families and bystanders being caught in the crossfire as they tried to intervene and implored those involved to stop.

Speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson said: “We are shocked and saddened by this incident. We take a zero tolerance approach to violence and continue to assist the police with their enquiries. We would like to apologise to any passengers affected.”

Bedfordshire Police are investigating the brawl, stating that they were “made aware of a violent disorder at London Luton Airport” and subsequently confirmed that “[f]our people were injured, and three were taken to hospital with serious injuries”.

All of the 17 people arrested still remain in custody and are yet to be questioned.
