Ex-Manchester United player Ryan Giggs allegedly kicked his ex-girlfriend in the back and thrown her out of a hotel room after she accused him of flirting with other women, a court heard today.

Manchester Crown Court heard the details of Ryan Giggs’ alleged coercive and controlling behaviour, spanning over three years, inflicted by Giggs onto his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville.

Giggs attended the hearing today, where the particulars of his charge were recited by prosecutor Tim Evans. These particulars included head butting Kate Greville, threatening her by saying that he would email her boss and expose their sexual relationship and assaulting her sister, Emma Greville.

He also allegedly threw her belongings out of the house when she would accuse him of cheating, and kicked her in the back when she questioned him about flirting with other women.

Prosecutor Tim Evans told the court Giggs is accused of “kicking her in the back, and then throwing her out of the hotel bedroom naked followed by throwing her bag at her when she accused you of flirting with other women.”

He continued: “Sending constant unwanted messages and making constant unwanted calls to her and her friends when she tried to break-off your relationship; after she had tried to break-off the relationship, regularly turning up unannounced and uninvited at her home, workplace and gym.”

Ryan Giggs denies all charges, and spoke only at the hearing to enter not guilty pleas and confirm his name, The Daily Mail reports.

The defence, led by Lisa Roberts QC, said: “These are serous allegations each of which is challenged.”

When Giggs was originally charged with the offences this April, he wrote in a statement: “I have full respect for the due process of law and understand the seriousness of the allegations. I will plead not guilty in court and look forward to clearing my name.”

Following his arrest, he was removed as manager for Wales during the Euros 2020 competition and replaced with care taker manager Robert Page.

Giggs has been bailed and will appear in court next for his pre-trial hearing in October. In the meantime, he is forbidden from contacting Kate or Emma Greville.
