Sarah Everard’s killer is said to be ‘suffering quite badly’
Wayne Couzens, the former police officer who kidnapped, raped, and murdered Sarah Everard, has been struck down with a serious case of covid while serving a whole-life sentence.
The 48-year-old used his Met police badge to stop the 33-year-old under the pretense of a covid stop as she walked home from a friend’s house through Clapham Common towards her home in Brixton on March 3 last year.
Couzens, who was sentenced in September, was moved to HMP Frankland in County Durham – which is home to some of the UK’s most notorious killers such as Levi Bellfield and Ian Huntley – before Christmas.
He is now said to be seriously ill with covid and has been placed in an isolation cell.
A prison source told The Sun: “People have been talking about karma, but it looks like he will be OK.
“He’s been suffering quite badly with it though after coming down with symptoms and has been told to isolate in his cell.
“He is having food and drink left outside, and can’t see anyone at all.”
The source said there wasn’t a lot of “sympathy” for Couzens, “given his former job and what he did with the fake Covid arrest”.
Everard’s murder sparked national outrage and a series of protests over violence against women.
News of Cozens’ brush with covid, comes after Scotland Yard was last week told to overhaul its culture of sexism, racism, bullying, and homophobia after a damning report uncovered officers’ disturbing ‘jokes’ about rape.
The police watchdog issued the force with 15 recommendations after an investigation into misconduct at Charing Cross Police Station.
