Another week, another batch of new movie and TV show additions to the big streaming services.

Movies
The Batman (Prime Video)
Robert Pattinson takes over as The Dark Knight in this superhero reboot, which sees the caped crusader investigating a sadistic killer (Paul Dano) who leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues.
Arguably an unrecognisable Colin Farrell steals the show though playing the villainous Penguin, who is soon to get his own spin-off series.
Black Hawk Down (Prime Video)
Directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator) and based on actual events, this 2001 war movie takes place in 1993 as the US send special forces into Somalia to destabilise the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population.
“Using Black Hawk helicopters to lower the soldiers onto the ground, an unexpected attack by Somalian forces brings two of the helicopters down immediately,” the plot synopsis reads.
“From there, the US soldiers must struggle to regain their balance while enduring heavy gunfire.”
Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, Josh Hartnett, Sam Shepard, Tom Sizemore and William Fichtner star in this film which was recently named one of the greatest war films of all time.
The Iron Claw (Prime Video)
This recent sports drama revolves around real-life professional wrestler Kevin Von Erich (a career-best Zac Efron) and his family of fellow wrestlers, who suffered a string of tragedies – leading some to dub them cursed.
The star-studded cast also includes Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Lily James (Pam & Tommy) and Maura Tierney (The Affair).
Lucky Number Slevin (Prime Video)
This 2006 neo-noir crime thriller sees a case of mistaken identity put a man named Slevin (Josh Hartnett again) in the middle of a war between two rival New York crime lords: The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and the Boss (Morgan Freeman).
“While under the watchful eyes of Detective Brikowski (Stanley Tucci) and well-known assassin Goodkat (Bruce Willis), Slevin must quickly devise a plan to save his skin before his luck runs out,” the plot synopsis reads.
Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain (Sky Cinema and NOW Cinema)
Narrated by John Goodman, this 2023 comedy revolves around Ben (Ben Marshall), John (John Higgins) and Martin (Martin Herlihy) – three childhood friends turned deadbeat co-workers who get swept up in an adventure to find a priceless treasure.
On their quest, they must fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers (Meg Stalter and X Mayo) and a hypocritical cult leader (Bowen Yang).
Conan O’Brien also co-stars.
Smile (Netflix)
This 2022 horror centres on a doctor named Rose (Sosie Bacon) who witnesses a bizarre and traumatic incident involving one of her patients.
Not long after this, the doctor starts being stalked by a malevolent entity that makes it appear as if everyone around her is smiling unnaturally.
It turns out this is only the beginning of the horrors the evil force has in store for its victims.
Upon its release, Smile was quickly greenlit for a sequel which will be released on 18 October this year.
TV
Honour (Netflix)
This two-part true crime drama series depicts the investigation into the disappearance and murder of honour killing victim Banaz Mahmod (Buket Komur) in London.
Released originally by ITV in 2020, Keeley Hawes stars in the show as Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode, the real-life woman who led the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Serious Crime Command team in the probe into Ms. Mahmod’s death.
The Murderous Scissor Sisters (Prime Video)
This three-part Amazon original true crime documentary is about Charlotte and Linda Mulhall – dubbed the ‘Scissor Sisters’ by Irish media – and their killing of Farah Swaleh Noor.
The plot synopsis for the series reads: “That two young women could stab and beat to death their mother’s boyfriend is appalling enough.
“But Charlotte and Linda Mulhall sank to extreme levels of depravity when they mutilated Farah Swaleh Noor’s body and then dumped his chopped-up remains in Dublin’s Royal Canal.”
The series is said to explore the events that led to the killing of Noor, who had a history of violence against women, and the subsequent investigation into the death which was one of the “most intensive police hunts in Irish history”.
Sunny (Apple TV+)
Based on the novel The Dark Manual by Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan, this sci-fi comedy thriller centres around Suzie (Rashida Jones), an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash.
As a ‘consolation’, she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company.
Forming an unexpected friendship, the pair work to uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family.
The first two episodes of the series are streaming now with the rest to drop weekly on Wednesdays.
