Yes, you did read that headline correctly
10 years ago, Rebecca Black literally broke the internet when she released the video for her song ‘Friday’.
She was just 13 years old, but the internet being what it was, she was torn to pieces in comment sections everywhere. The abuse was endless, and it got to the point where this young teenager was receiving death threats, over a harmless song.
However, despite the negative feedback the song received – it was undeniably catchy.
Thankfully, 10 years later, and with the internet a much kinder place than it used t… – joking of course, it’s still a hellscape – she has released a remix to the classic tune.
Featuring Dorian Electra, Big Freedia & 3OH!3 (remember them!?), the song sounds extremely different to how it did 10 years ago, though those iconic lyrics remain the same.
Take a listen:
Speaking about the remix, Black said: “I’d had the idea to do this remix of Friday for years leading up to now, but honestly it was also mildly insane for me to think anyone else would want to be a part of it.
“As I started talking about it with other artists and producers, I couldn’t believe how stoked people were about it. I am thrilled to have some of my favourite artists (and people) as a part of this moment.”
So 10 years after her life was made a living hell because of a catchy song, she appears to be owning it and making it something to celebrated.
We say fair play to her.
