A new Austin Powers film could be arriving soon

Paul Moore

Mike Myers is very optimistic.

After three films and countless catchphrases that took on a pop-culture life of their own, it appears that the world’s most famous man of mystery is coming back.

Yes, that’s right. Mike Myers has revealed that there’s a “very strong” chance that Austin Powers will return.

Truth be told, we would like to see a few scenes that depict Dr. Evil’s childhood about his father who was “a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we’d make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really.”

The script writes itself.

Anyways, sixteen years after Goldmember was released, Myers has hinted that Austin Powers might be returning.

Speaking at the premiere of his new film Terminal, he said that a fourth film could very well happen.

“I can’t say. But it’s, you know, maybe,” he said when asked about the possibility of a comeback for the comedy film series. It’s a very strong maybe. We’ll see. I would love to. I’ve had three kids in the last six years and that’s sort of been where my focus has been. But, you know, I love doing all the characters and it’s a non-stop party when we’re shooting. It’s fun.”

Myers also spoke in glowing terms about his co-star, the late Verne Troyer.  “Verne’s legacy is that he was a fantastic comedy actor. We wrote it [and] the part wasn’t much, and he made it definitely better. He was a great stuntman, a great dancer, a great mime and a great human being.”

What do you reckon? Fancy seeing Austin Powers back on the big screen?
