Ariana Grande’s haunting cover of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ was absolutely perfect

Paul Moore

Amazing.

The public was fully behind everyone that was in attendance at Old Trafford for the One Love Manchester concert, and during an evening of memorable performances, it’s fitting that the final words went to Ariana Grande.

Yet again, it’s worth reiterating that the singer is only 23-years-old. In recent weeks, she has handled the tragic events that unfolded at the Manchester Arena with a remarkable degree of maturity, poise and strength.

This being said, every artist that performed at the concert was very aware of where the focus lied as they each paid tribute to those 22 people that tragically lost their lives.

The concert began with a poignant and touching moment of silence before Robbie Williams captivated everyone by getting the 50,000 people in attendance to sing “Manchester, We’re Strong.”

There was hardly a dry eye in the house as Ariana Grande comforted and performed with a young child who got a little bit of stage fright, but it’s arguable that the policeman who danced ‘Ring Around the Rosie’ with a bunch of kids stole the show.

Liam Gallagher absolutely brought the house down with this version of Live Forever, but on a night that saw the very best of Manchester and music, Grande sent everyone home on an optimistic and beautiful note.
