BBC viewers disgusted by ‘animal sex’ scene in edgy new drama

‘I’m ready for turning off’

Viewers have been left horrified after BBC drama The Jetty aired a scene where a horse was pleasured by a character.

The new crime drama was hotly tipped as being the next Happy Valley with hopes it would grip the nation in a similar way to the drama featuring Sarah Lancashire.

The Jetty, starring Jenna Coleman, follows Detective Ember Manning who is left questioning events in her past after an arson attack at a boat house.

There are twists and turns in every episode which has left some fans hooked on the series but others aren’t so impressed with complaints about the sound and lighting.

Now another complaint has surfaced as viewers were said to be ‘grossed out’ by a particular scene in the first episode.

The character Amy took a friend to her home where she reveals the family are facing money issues and they will soon have to shoot their horse for the insurance money.

The scene continues and Amy is seen leaning down and pleasuring the animal with her hand before leaving the barn.

Viewers took to social media to share their disgust. One X user said: “That scene with the horse was just gross #TheJetty,” whilst another asked if there was ‘any need’ for the scene.

Another fumed: “Turned my stomach. I’m ready for turning off. No likeable characters.”

One user tried to picture the conversation between the script writers: “Imagine somone coming up with the idea of a young girl w*nking a horse, others round the exec table nodding in excited agreement…and the BBC commissioning it. The world’s gone mad. Turned it off after half an hour. Cr*p script, lighting & sound.”

However, the series, which sees a lot of outdoor scenes shot at Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough, Rochdale, has captivated some viewers.

One said: “If it’s available to you, make sure to stream #TheJetty @BBC @BBCiPlayer!!”

The first two episodes were aired on Monday and Tuesday with the concluding two episodes scheduled for Sunday and Monday evening, but the series was released on iPlayer after the first episode aired.

One fan said: “Just managed to watch the last episode of The Jetty and my opinion of it hasn’t changed, I liked it and recommend it if you haven’t watched it yet.”
