It launched today and it’s an absolute riot.
A few weeks ago, we brought you the news that a TV show that’s based on The Young Offenders was about to launch on the BBC and we couldn’t be any happier.
Since being released in 2016, the film has become a bonafide cult-classic and Peter Foott’s film has found a whole new audience since being released on Netflix.
At present, The Young Offenders currently has an 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and after getting a chance to watch the first episode of the new TV show, we’re delighted to say that it’s just as good.
If you loved the realistic, raw and anarchic feel to the film, you’ll love the TV show because it definitely subscribes to the belief that if it’s not broken then don’t fix it.
JOE’s own Rory Cashin got to visit the set and Alex Murphy (Conor) squashed any fears that having more money to make the show would ultimately result in the plot being less fun.
“I thought it would be less craic, because it is bigger and therefore less fun. The only difference though is that it is a bit more efficient. Same amount of craic, but more efficient.”
If you loved the film then you’ll be delighted to know that the majority of the cast are back for the small screen adaptation. Ok, what’s the first episode about?
Well, there’s lots of mischief and laughs as Conor and Jock continue their ongoing conflict with their school headmaster, Principal Barry Walsh.
After a not-so-clever plan to earn some extra cash backfires, the lads go head-to-head with Sergeant Healy, who has been hot on their heels for some time and is determined to catch them up to no good. They also may have been caught in the act by Principal Walsh’s two daughters, Siobhan and Linda, so the guys need to turn on the charm to persuade the girls not to spill the beans, which only serves to further irritate Principal Walsh even further.
The first episode is currently available on the BBC iPlayer and it’s already found its fanbase.
