Bill Bailey is joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing

This is just great news to be honest

Comedian Bill Bailey has been officially announced as one of the dancers on the next series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The official Strictly Twitter account announced the news on Thursday, featuring Bailey in what could only be described as some kind of Country and Western-inspired suit.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, Bailey discussed his “dance history” and said that his late mother would have loved his appearance on the show.

“I haven’t been to stage school, haven’t lived for the dance as some may have done,” he said.

“I’m not Lord of the Dance. More sort of Caretaker of the Dance, going to be quite a challenge… that’s what this is all about!

“My late mum Madrin would have loved it – I hope she’ll be watching.”

Bailey is best-known for his appearance in the Channel 4 comedy Black Books, alongside Dylan Moran and Tamsin Greig. He has also appeared numerous times on shows like Never Mind The Buzzcocks and QI.

Though he has admitted that he has little dance experience, Bailey is a talented musician, with his keyboard skills being a central feature of his stand-up routine.
