Paranoia, robot pop stars and social media
The fifth season of Black Mirror drops at the beginning of next month. And after we got the first trailer last week, we now have a lot more information on what to expect.
Netflix has just released the titles, synopsis and casts for each of the three new episodes – along with individual trailers for each.
We get the first real information on the much-touted Miley Cyrus episode, featuring a mini robot version of Cyrus’s fictional pop star.
Elsewhere, Sherlock and Fleabag star Andrew Scott takes the lead as a cab driver having the day from hell in ‘Smithereens’, and there is a mini Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy reunion of Anthony Mackie and Pom Klementieff in ‘Striking Vipers’, which looks like it is taking the emotional relationship episode slot previously filled by ‘The Entire History of You’ and ‘Be Right Back’.
The new season only has six episodes, which is only half of the six instalments we got in season four. We did, of course, get the interactive ‘Bandersnatch’ episode at Christmas.
Here are the details of each episode, along with the trailers:
“SMITHEREENS”
A cab driver with an agenda becomes the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.
Cast: Andrew Scott, Damson Idris, Topher Grace
“RACHEL, JACK AND ASHLEY, TOO”
A lonely teenager yearns to connect with her favorite pop star – whose charmed existence isn’t quite as rosy it appears…
Cast: Miley Cyrus, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport
“STRIKING VIPERS”
Two estranged college friends reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever.
Cast: Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Ludi Lin
